My name is Jacqui Talbot and I am a writer, loner, and fantasy geek. I was born on a Choctaw Indian reservation in Mississippi, and have done everything from wrestling alligators to modeling.
I am introverted by nature. I don’t really travel unless it’s for writing. I don’t like crowds and rarely attend social functions. (It’s hard enough talking to people I know. Put me in a room full of strangers, and I’m clumsier than a drunken hippo on greased ice.) It’s not that I don’t like people; I’m just not any good with them. Most of my attempts at interaction end in tears and recriminations. (Don’t even get me started on social media. I’m still not entirely sure what a “tweet” is.)
Writing is how I connect. Reading is how I interact. Unfortunately, neither is enough anymore. In order to survive in today’s competitive marketplace, I was told that social media, websites and blogs are a must. So – in addition to the challenges of being a writer – this blog is dedicated to the misadventures of a loner and fantasy geek.
This blog is my attempt to connect with people who love to read and write, especially speculative fiction, though all are welcome. I want to share lessons I’ve learned in writing and in life. I also want to learn from you. Anything you want to share. If you’re the kind of person who invariably says the wrong thing, or prefers curling up on the couch with a good book to attending the neighborhood block party, then this is for you. Loner, writer, or reader: all are welcome. Stop in, read a bit, and feel free to post reviews of your favorite books and movies, a piece of original fiction, or tales of your own missteps in the minefields of social interaction. Maybe, with a little practice and a lot of luck, we can find our way through them together.

I’m glad you decided to blog. Thanks.
So am I. Thanks for reading!
Hi Jacqui. At a baby shower i was trying to make conversation (hopeless) and asked about The S.I.D.S. instead of The Sims…I have a knack for this sort of thing. Just found your blog so i’ll stop by again soon. Enjoy your vacation.
Kathryn
Hi Kathryn,
Ha! SIDS instead of Sims is a new one. And at a baby shower! You sound like a woman after my own heart. The one good thing about social gaffes is that they make great stories. Thanks for dropping by.
